Energy Auditor & BPI Bridge Course
November 8, 2010The Bridge course is designed to help individuals who in the past have taken Auditor programs other than BPI sponsored courses. This offering is designed to bridge the gap in course content and will be taught by BPI Certified Instructors. At the conclusion of the course, students will be offered the opportunity to challenge the BPI written exam and field exam. Testing fees are not included in the cost of this course. (40 hrs)
Topics covered:
- CAZ testing and requirements - 8 hours
- Heating System Identification and evaluation – 16 hours
- Auditor review and field evaluation –16 hours

Efficiency Maine to Give Home Energy Program at Lithgow Library
November 10, 2010Time: 6:30 pm
Location: Lithgow Public Library, 45 Winthrop Street, Augusta
A representative from Efficiency Maine will present a program called “Achieving Home Energy Savings” at Lithgow Public Library on Wednesday, November 10 at 6:30 p.m. Technical field representative Tom Boothby will talk about Efficiency Maine’s Home Energy Savings Program (HESP), and the purpose and value of a professional home energy audit. Boothby will also discuss home heat loss, moisture control, indoor air quality and combustion safety. There will be time for a question and answer session.
The program, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the library’s Reading Room.

Residential Construction Training: Keeping Foundations Warm & Dry
November 12, 2010This program will educate residential contractors on the construction practices that can minimize the risk of indoor air quality (IAQ) problems in new homes. The program will provide a general overview of indoor air quality issues that occur in new home construction, followed by an extensive exploration of specific construction techniques that keep foundations warm, dry, and pollutant-free.

BPI Building Analyst-I
November 29, 2010This course will prepare students to pass the Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst Written and Field exams, and for entry level positions in the energy field as a BPI Certified Building Analyst. Students will learn to conduct accurate building analysis, provide information, reports and documentation of findings, make appropriate recommendations for weatherization and energy improvements, including financial benefits and payback on energy investments. Students will be knowledgeable with respect to space and water heating systems and combustion appliance zones. Upon receipt of BPI certification, candidates will be qualified to conduct CAZ tests, flue gas analysis, carbon monoxide tests, spillage tests and gas leak tests. BPI Certified Building Analysts qualify to apply for the Maine Fuels Board Oil Limited Energy Auditors License. The course includes a significant focus on safety procedures and safety equipment as it applies to the energy field. Prerequisites: None. Basic knowledge of buildings, framing types and materials is helpful.
The course is offered at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor, five days per week for two weeks, starting November 29 through December 10.
