RE:     MAINE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION, Procedures

For Conservation Program Planning – Commission Staff Report on the Potential for Energy Efficiency in Maine and Recommendations for Conservation Program Funding, Docket No. 2002-162

Dear Mr. Keschl:

On February 11, 2003, the Commission Staff issued its Report on the Potential for Energy Efficiency in Maine and Recommendations for Conservation Program Funding (the “Report”) in the above-referenced docket.  The Report states that interested persons may provide comments or object to the recommendations or analysis set forth in the Report.  The deadline for such comments was set at February 24, 2003.

Central Maine Power Company (“CMP”) respectfully requests a one-week extension in the comment deadline, so that comments would be due on March 3, 2003.  The reason for this request is that the original deadline would have given CMP less than two weeks to comment on this lengthy report.  This time frame is especially short when taking into account the fact that one of these weeks is a school vacation week when many of the personnel involved in these issues will not be available.  Even for those personnel not on vacation, another day to respond is lost as a result of the Presidents’ Day holiday.  Therefore, good cause exists for granting CMP and other interested persons a one-week extension within which to file comments on the Report.

Please contact me at (207) 621-6546 if the Commission or its Staff has any questions regarding this request for extension.

                                                 Sincerely,

                                                                                    Richard P. Hevey
