Small Battery Management
Batteries are an excellent solution for a home or business that wants power reliability. They may qualify for one-time federal tax credits (click here to learn more) and earn annual incentives when they are enrolled in Efficiency Maine’s Small Battery Management Program.
This program pays customers to share electricity from their batteries when there is high demand on the electric grid. Peak events typically take place on hot summer afternoons and last about three hours. See below for a list of past “events.” There is no action a battery owner needs to take and they can opt out of any event.
Incentive: Participants earn $100 for each kW of average discharge during events. For example, if a battery discharges an average of 10kW for all events of the season, the annual incentive would be $1,000 (10kW X $100/kW). Opting out of an event counts as zero kW.

*These examples assume batteries are performing according to specification, participate in all events, are fully charged at the beginning of each event, and discharge 85% of their capacity to the grid.

- Nameplate inverter capacity no larger than 20kW

- Tesla
Building
- Must be located in Maine with a properly interconnected meter.

How to Get an Incentive
- Install your eligible device.
- Submit an enrollment form and accept the Terms and Conditions.
- Maintain connectivity of eligible device.
- Receive incentive via email.
