Smart Thermostats
Typically thermostats control most of a home’s energy bill—more than lighting, electronics, and appliances combined. Being smart about controlling temperature settings can help save money and increase comfort.
ENERGY STAR® certified smart thermostats are tested in hundreds of homes to demonstrate an average of 8% heating system run time reduction*. They also provide greater convenience and control compared to conventional thermostats.
Smart thermostats are Wi-Fi enabled controllers that automatically adjust heating and cooling temperature settings in a home for optimal performance. While system designs may vary, common smart thermostat features include:
- Convenience – Many smart thermostats learn temperature preferences and establish a schedule that automatically adjusts to energy-saving temperatures when occupants are asleep or away. “Geofencing” allows smart thermostats to know when occupants are on the way home and automatically adjusts the home’s temperature accordingly.
- Control – Wi-Fi enabled thermostats allow users to control a home’s heating and cooling remotely through a smartphone.
- Insight – Smart thermostats provide heating and air conditioning usage and temperature data that can be tracked and managed. Periodic software updates ensure the smart thermostat is using the latest algorithms and energy-saving features available.
