Electricity monitors that help you detect power use by your appliances and electronics are on loan free of charge through most Maine public libraries. The monitors are part of a statewide community outreach by Efficiency Maine.
Simply plug the monitor into an electric outlet and plug an appliance into the monitor to get a read-out of electricity use, then calculate how much the appliance is costing. Download the complete instructions (PDF).
Each loaned monitor comes with a free “tool kit” which includes a brochure with home energy saving tips.
Visit a participating Maine library to check out a monitor free of charge.
Don’t have a library in your town? Visit the Maine State Library’s website to find out how you can request materials via the mail.
