Efficiency Maine Launches Driving Costs Calculator

Efficiency Maine recently added to its website a calculator that compares fuel costs between gasoline cars and electric vehicles (EVs). The Compare Driving Costs Calculator helps consumers see what they could save by switching from a gasoline vehicle to an EV. Some features of the calculator include:

1. default gasoline and home electric rate prices that are updated on a bi-weekly basis;

2. the ability for users to change the gasoline price and electric rate values to match their unique circumstances; and

3. a “Select an Electric Vehicle” dropdown menu that allows users to choose from a list of Efficiency Maine rebate-eligible electric vehicles with preset battery size and battery range values that are used in the main calculation.

The calculator was developed for comparison purposes only. Individual gasoline and electricity prices may differ. For models with multiple battery sizes, the smallest battery size is used. Actual performance may vary. Default energy prices were last updated on July 31, 2026.
