The Efficiency Maine Green Bank uses several fund sources to support its finance initiatives. Projects leveraging certain federally funded loans must satisfy federal National Historic Preservation Act requirements. This means that, for any property that is 50+ years old, the Maine State Historic Preservation Office must review the proposed project details to determine whether it will affect the building’s exterior facade (e.g., heat pumps). This review must be completed prior to proceeding with an installation or receiving financing.
Historic Preservation Review Steps
- Determine the age of your building.
- Work with your intended contractor to determine whether your project will result in any change to the exterior facade of your property.
- If the age of the building is 50 years or older AND there is a change to the exterior facade, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page.
- After completing the form, the project details will be reviewed by the Maine State Historic Preservation Office. You will receive a response via email with one of the following determinations:
- Denied – Your project is NOT eligible for the use of funds based on the review of the Historic Preservation Office.
- Conditionally Approved – Your project is approved if, and only if, you incorporate the changes and conditions requested by the Historic Preservation Office.
- Approved – Your project is approved as is. Any material changes to the project would need to reinitiate a review by the Historic Preservation Office.
- If your project is approved or conditionally approved, you may proceed with your project installation and loan application.
