Important Changes to EV Rebate Program
As a result of the recent surge in demand for EVs, Efficiency Maine’s budget for EV rebates for this fiscal year, which ends June 30, 2025, is fast approaching being fully committed. To stay within our budget, we are announcing today that Efficiency Maine will suspend its electric vehicle rebates for all customers – except for qualifying low-income Mainers – effective Saturday, November 16, 2024 or when the available program budget is fully committed, whichever comes first. With the exception of qualifying low-income Mainers, customers must purchase or lease an eligible vehicle prior to 12:00 a.m. ET on Saturday, November 16, 2024, in order to receive a time-of-sale Efficiency Maine rebate. Efficiency Maine will notify you immediately if the deadline changes.
This program suspension applies to the following customer categories:
- Any-income customers
- Moderate-income customers
- Businesses and organizations
- Governmental entities, tribal governments, and 2-1-1 nonprofits
In addition to completing the purchase or lease transaction no later than November 15, the rebate reimbursement requests for these customer categories must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024.
As always, Efficiency Maine staff will work with your team after reimbursement requests are submitted to correct any errors and process all eligible rebates for payment.
Finally, starting November 1 (today) Efficiency Maine will no longer accept rebate hold requests (except for qualifying low-income Mainers).
As noted above, this announcement does not affect EV rebates for qualifying low-income Mainers; Efficiency Maine will continue to offer time-of-sale EV rebates for qualifying low-income Mainers. The EV rebate amounts for these customers remain unchanged:
$7,500 for eligible battery electric vehicle (BEV)
$3,000 for eligible plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)
$2,500 for eligible used BEV or PHEV with a purchase price of $40,000 or less
We encourage you to remind your customers that they can still take advantage of generous federal tax credits on eligible electric vehicle purchases.
We appreciate your assistance with alerting your colleagues and customers to this change. If you have any questions, please email us at EV@efficiencymaine.com or call us at (866) 376-2463.
