Small Battery Management
Small batteries are an excellent solution for homes and small businesses seeking power reliability. They are also an effective source of alternative on-site power and can ease demand on the electric grid during periods of high demand. Efficiency Maine offers incentives to homeowners and small businesses to use our platform to automatically discharge power from their battery system on certain days with peak grid conditions, called “demand response events”.
Demand response events occur when there is high demand on the electric grid. This happens approximately 40, but no more than 60 times annually. Each event occurs on a non-holiday weekday and lasts up to three hours. Before events, a battery will charge to 100% of its storage potential. During events, a battery will discharge 85% of that stored electricity. Efficiency Maine will not call a demand response event during a severe outage or for two days preceding predicted severe outages.
Eligible battery manufacturers are:
- Duracell Power Center
- Eguana
- Emporia
- Enphase
- Generac
- SolarEdge
- Tesla
Incentive: $100/kW of average discharge during demand response events, paid annually in December.
