EV Announcements

Oct 14, 2022

NEW EV Rebate Amounts

As of October 11th, 2022, new, higher EV rebates are available for qualified moderate-income customers. In addition, the rebate amounts for any income and low income customers have been changed.

Current Rebate Amounts (as of 10/11/22)

To receive the low- or moderate-income rebate, a customer must have a pre-approval letter from Efficiency Maine at the time of purchase. If the customer does not have a pre-approval letter, they can receive the “any income” rebate of $1,000 for BEVs and $500 for PHEVs. Customers can apply for pre-approval for low- and moderate-income rebates at https://www.efficiencymaine.com/income-based-eligibility-verification/.

For vehicles that have been ordered with a paid deposit but not yet delivered, Efficiency Maine will honor the rebate that was available when the customer ordered the vehicle.

Important: Please recycle old brochures and other point of purchase materials with the old ($2,000/$1,000) rebate amounts. New POP materials will be shipped to dealerships soon.

*To qualify as moderate-income, a customer must have an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) below $70,000 for an individual filing as single, head of household or married filing separately, or $100,000 if married filing jointly or individual filing as a qualifying widower. Customers will be asked to submit a Tax Return Transcript so Efficiency Maine can verify AGI.

**To qualify as low-income, a customer must be a member of a household that participates in the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or MaineCare.

If a customer has submitted a vehicle order through your dealership before October 11th, 2022, they will still be eligible for the previous rebates of $1,000 for PHEVs and $2,000 for BEVs as long as a rebate hold has been submitted. If a customer is waiting on a car and a rebate hold has not been submitted, we recommend that this is done in order for the customer to receive the rebate they were eligible for at the time of purchase.
