Electric Vehicle Rebates
Efficiency Maine offers instant and mail-in rebates for qualifying battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) at Participating Dealers or purchased directly from the manufacturer. Explore the links on the side of the page to learn more about EVs, charging, and more.
How to Receive Your Rebate
Our Participating Dealers will reduce the price of your new EV at the point of sale. That means no paperwork and no waiting for your money back. If you purchase a vehicle directly from the manufacturer, you will submit the forms yourself within 45 days and receive a check in the mail. Vehicles purchased outside the State of Maine or from non-participating dealers are not eligible for a rebate.

- To receive an instant rebate at a Participating Dealership, present a current Maine driver’s license and sign the EV Purchaser Agreement. The Dealer will take care of the rest.
- If you purchased or leased a vehicle directly from an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that does not have a licensed franchised dealer in Maine (e.g. Tesla), submit the EV Rebate Application Form to Efficiency Maine within 45 days of the transaction. All required forms and documents can be found on the right-hand side of this page under “EV Rebate Program Forms and Documents.” Depending on how you purchased your vehicle, you may need to obtain a Title Application from the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).
- For vehicles that have been ordered with a paid deposit but will not be delivered until a later date, a Participating Dealer (or, in the case of vehicles ordered directly from the manufacturer, the Purchaser) may request a “rebate hold”. A rebate hold allows Efficiency Maine to reserve funds for the rebate(s) for 120 days or until the purchase is completed, whichever comes sooner.
- If you ordered a vehicle through a Participating Dealer, the dealer will submit the rebate hold request.
- If you ordered a vehicle directly from the manufacturer, you can submit a rebate hold request using the EV Rebate Application Form.
See EV Program Manual for full details about rebate holds.
