How to Take Advantage of Efficiency Maine’s Electric Vehicle Incentives for Organizations

Maine businesses and organizations are switching to electric vehicles (EVs) to lower operation and maintenance costs, reduce tailpipe emissions, and enjoy the benefits of EV-specific features like supplemental jobsite power. Efficiency Maine provides special incentives for Maine businesses, select nonprofit organizations, governmental entities, and tribal governments interested in purchasing or leasing eligible EVs.

Here are four easy steps to take advantage of Efficiency Maine’s EV incentives.

Step 1: Review Efficiency Maine’s available incentives

Efficiency Maine offers $2,000 rebates for new battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and $1,000 rebates for new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) for businesses and nonprofit organizations. Each entity can receive up to 10 Efficiency Maine EV incentives within a 12-month period. Additionally, $8,000 rebates are available for organizations purchasing a battery electric cargo van, such as a Ford E-Transit or Mercedes eSprinter.

Eligible organizations may qualify for federal tax credits in addition to Efficiency Maine’s incentives. Click here for additional information on federal EV tax credits.

Step 2: Review Efficiency Maine’s list of eligible electric vehicles

The Eligible Vehicles List includes all BEVs and PHEVs with trim levels that qualify for Efficiency Maine rebates.

For eligible pickup trucks or commercial vans, the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) or “sticker price*” cannot exceed $80,000. For all other eligible vehicles, the MSRP must not exceed $55,000.**

Step 3: Find a Participating Dealer***

After you’ve decided on an eligible EV for your business, it’s time to find an Efficiency Maine Participating EV Dealer near you. Efficiency Maine collaborates with over 80 dealers statewide to provide Efficiency Maine rebates as time-of-sale instant discounts. To find a Participating Dealer, visit our website to review the list and map of locations.

Step 4: Receive an instant discount

Contact a Participating Dealer and move forward with purchasing your vehicle(s). The dealer will handle the process of securing your instant discount, and will deduct it from the vehicle price, at the time of purchase or lease.

Alternatively, if you’re interested in purchasing or leasing a vehicle directly from a manufacturer (e.g., Tesla, Rivian, etc.), you can submit an online EV rebate claim form, which must be completed within 60 days of your EV purchase or lease date.

For more information on electric vehicles and Efficiency Maine’s EV rebates, please visit our EV home page at efficiencymaine.com/electric-vehicle-rebates.

*Including options and accessories, minus destination/delivery charges, and no other discounts, deductions, credits or rebates are to be counted in the eligibility determination calculation.
**The business or nonprofit entity applying for EV incentives must also be in “Good Standing,” authorized to do business in the State of Maine, and have an office in the State of Maine.
***This step does not apply for direct-to-consumer vehicles, such as Teslas.
