HESP Incentives Path 2 (MENU)

This is an overview of the Home Energy Savings Program (HESP) menu of incentives. $1,500 incentive limit per 1 to 4 unit residential building. Customers who previously received a HESP rebate or more than $600 per building for prior air sealing incentive (RDI) are not eligible for additional rebates. Additional restrictions may apply. Air Sealing with Assessment
Incentive Measure Name Conditions, Standards, Limits
$400 Air Sealing with Assessment
  • Requires $200 customer co-pay minimum;
  • Requires assessment by BPI-certified professional according to program guidelines;
  • Retrofit only;
  • Previous Air Sealing customers not eligible for additional air sealing incentive;
  • Limit 1 per building;
  • Unitil and Summit Natural Gas of Maine customers are eligible for additional air sealing and rebates.
$100 Next Step Bonus For one Insulation or Heating System measure performed within six months of an Air Sealing with Assessment measure
Insulation
  • Requires assessment by BPI-certified professional according to program guidelines;
  • Retrofit only; may not be used where new building energy code is required;
  • Proper consideration is given to health and safety issues per BPI guidelines;
  • Limit 2 insulation measures ($1,000) from this category per building;
  • Requires minimum customer contribution of 2x the insulation incentive. This means total insulation project cost must exceed 3x insulation incentive. Ex.: $500 attic insulation incentive requires minimum $1,500 total attic insulation project cost, or $1,000 attic and basement insulation incentive requires minimum $3,000 total insulation project cost.

$500 Attic Insulation Attic sealed and increased to R49 or dense-packed/foamed to fill bay.
Wall Insulation Walls dense-packed/foamed to fill all accessible bays or minimum R12 rigid foam applied on entire exterior.
Basement Insulation All sills and chases sealed, basement wall insulation increased to R15 or 2″ thick continuous foam, compliant with fire code.
Supplemental Heating Systems
  • Limit 1 Supplemental Heating Measure/unit;
  • Requires minimum customer contribution of 2x the supplemental heating incentive. This means total supplemental heating system project cost must exceed 3x supplemental heating incentive. Ex.: $500 pellet stove incentive requires minimum $1,500 total pellet stove installation project cost, or $500 air source ductless heat pump incentive requires minimum ductless heat pump installation $1,500 project cost.

$500 Ductless Heat Pump Single zone units HSPF >/= 12.0                                       Multi-zone units HSPF >/= 10.0
High-Efficiency Central Heating Systems
  • Limit 1 whole-house heating measure/building;
  • Requires minimum customer contribution of 2x the whole-house heating incentive. Total whole-house heating system project cost must exceed 3x whole-house heating incentive. Ex.: $500 boiler incentive requires minimum $1,500 total boiler project cost.

$500 Air Source Heat Pump HSPF >/= 10.0, Connected to whole-house ducted or hydronic distribution system.
Furnace/Boiler (Natural Gas, Oil, Propane) Must be ENERGY STAR rated;Must be either (a) condensing or (b) installed with controls that include pre- and post-purge, outdoor reset, and cold start;Must not include tankless coils;Must be modulating or must demonstrate improved building fitness;Additional equipment rebates available to Summit Natural Gas of Maine customers for certain models.
