How to Receive Your Rebate
Our Participating Dealers will reduce the price of your new EV at the point of sale. That means no paperwork and no waiting for your money back.

Used Vehicle Eligibility:
- Used vehicles must be year 2015 or newer.
- Used vehicles must be purchased from a participating dealer.
- No private sales.
- Must be on Efficiency Maine’s list of eligible used BEVs and PHEVs
Purchaser Eligibility:
- Purchaser must be a member of a household, and be domiciled at that household in Maine, that has qualified at any time in the prior 12-month period to receive assistance through the Maine Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
Rebate Limits:
- Limit 1 Efficiency Maine Low-Income “Used EV” rebate per VIN
- Limit 1 Low-Income EV rebate (new or used) per customer

Purchaser Eligibility:
- Must be listed in the 211 Maine Directory and must be a 501(c)(3) non-profit providing health and human services or emergency services in the state of Maine.

- Maximum of 10 EV rebates per entity/organization per 12-month period

- Find a Participating Dealer.
- Apply for your rebate.
- To receive an instant rebate at a Participating Dealer, present a permanent Maine driver’s license and sign the EV Purchaser Agreement. The Dealer will take care of the rest.
- To receive a mail-in rebate for a vehicle purchased or leased directly from an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that does not have a licensed franchised dealer in Maine (e.g. Tesla), submit the EV Rebate Application Form to Efficiency Maine within 30 days of the transaction.
Vehicle Eligibility
- Must be a new or used vehicle (for Qualified Low-Income customers only) on Efficiency Maine’s list of eligible vehicles at the time of sale.
- If new, must have an Original Equipment Manufacturer’s (OEM) warranty that fully covers the battery and electric drivetrain.
- Must be purchased or leased from a Participating Dealer for use and operation in Maine; or purchased or leased directly from an OEM (because they do not have an authorized franchised dealer in Maine) for use and operation in Maine. Vehicles purchased from private parties are not eligible.
- Have a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), less destination/delivery charges, that does not exceed $50,000. No other discounts, deductions, credits or rebates are to be counted in the eligibility determination calculation.
- Must be purchased or leased on or after August 29, 2019, and prior to the date of the Program’s termination, as noticed to Participating Dealers and on the Efficiency Maine website, or on December 21, 2021, whichever comes first.
Purchaser Eligibility
- To receive an Efficiency Maine EV rebate, an applicant must be either an individual Maine resident (permanent Maine driver’s license required), a business OR non-profit entity in “Good Standing,” authorized to do business in Maine and with an office in the state, OR a Maine Governmental Entity OR Tribal Government.
- Enhanced rebates are available for Qualified Low-Income Maine residents, Select Maine Non-Profits, Maine Governmental Entities and Tribal Governments. These applicants must present pre-approval letters issued by Efficiency Maine to a participating dealer at the time of purchase OR lease to receive an enhanced rebate.
