Biomass Heating

Biomass Heating

Biomass heating is an alternative and renewable source of home heating that is growing in popularity. This is largely due to its affordability over more traditional fuel types and the fact that Maine has significant, locally produced wood fuel resources.

Advances in stove and boiler design have dramatically reduced particulate emissions of wood burning while increasing their output efficiency. Look for EPA-certified equipment when making a biomass heating system purchase for highest efficiency and lowest emissions.

There currently are no rebates available from Efficiency Maine for installing or replacing biomass heating equipment. Biomass heating systems can be financed through our home energy loan program. Eligible homeowners can receive up to $25,000 with 4.99% APR with no closing fees. Click Here to learn more.

wood pellets

One ton of pellets is equivalent to 120 gallons of #2 fuel oil. A variety of new efficient stoves and boilers are available that enable homeowners and business owners to benefit from one of Maine’s renewable resources.
