A number of Maine professional organizations and educational institutions offer energy efficiency education and training. Efficiency Maine has been involved with many of these training programs and funded the development of energy efficiency curricula and training programs at four Maine community colleges. Efficiency Maine sponsors Building Operator Certification Training, as well as other professional development opportunities for Residential Registered Vendors and Qualified Partners. Building Operator Certification: Building Operator Certification is a nationally recognized training program designed to educate facilities personnel in the energy- and resource-efficient operation and maintenance of building systems.
Community College Programs
Eastern Maine Community College: The EMCC Energy Auditor and Weatherization Training Laboratory offers credit and non-credit courses in the science of evaluating, diagnosing and installing residential building systems.
Kennebec Valley Community College: KVCC’s Energy Services Center provides a unique “one-stop” approach to energy education, where students are exposed to traditional and renewable technologies under one roof. The Center’s diverse offerings in energy education, both credit and non-credit, provide students, professionals, and members of the general public the opportunity to explore any or all of the energy disciplines.
Northern Maine Community College: NMCC offers weatherization and renewable energy, including a newly developed wind power technology associate’s degree.
Southern Maine Community College: SMCC offers a range of professional certifications in building performance and sustainability for new and existing professionals including BPI Building Analyst certification and GPRO Green Operations and Maintenance.
Maine Association of Building Efficiency Professionals: MABEP represents and advances the interests of businesses and individuals providing energy efficiency and renewable energy services and equipment. MABEP offers workshops and seminars on topics of interest to our members and others.
Maine Chapter of ASHRAE Region 1: The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers is open to any person associated with heating, ventilation, air conditioning or refrigeration through such disciplines as indoor air quality and energy conservation, for example. The Maine Chapter of ASHRAE has a number of workshops and training activities for members.
Maine Energy Marketers Association: MEMA’s Technical Education Center has educated hundreds of students in the areas of oil heat, propane gas, and air conditioning. Classes are available for entry level and experienced technicians to learn the latest in installation, service and repair.
Maine Indoor Air Quality Council: The MIAQC is an interdisciplinary, non-profit, non-partisan organization, with a diverse membership whose mission is to promote quality of life through improved indoor environments. MIAQC offers a number of workshops and trainings to members and the public.
Maine Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council: The Maine Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council is a membership organization committed to creating a sustainable built environment in Maine. USGBC-ME works to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.
