Changes to the EV Rebate Program Effective July 1, 2021
As of today, July 1, 2021, Efficiency Maine has made changes to the EV rebate program. These changes include:
Enhanced Rebates for Governmental Entities
Governmental rebates will be returning to the original rebate amount, with limited-time enhanced rebates for entities outside of Cumberland and York counties.
- Standard rebate amount – governmental entities:
- $7,500 / BEV
- $2,000 / PHEV
- Special limited-time promotion for entities located in all counties except Cumberland and York
- Must not have received a rebate in the past 12 months
- Must complete purchase by August 31, 2021
- $12,000 / BEV
- $5,000 / PHEV
- Limits per entity (per EIN/Tax ID):
- 2 leased vehicles
- 5 total vehicles
- Pre-approval process is mostly the same as before – new application form here.
Limited Promotion for Business Fleets
- Limited-time promotion for purchase/lease of 2 to 10 vehicles by Maine businesses
- The first 50 vehicles will receive an additional $2,500 on top of the standard rebate:
- Total $4,500 / BEV
- Total $3,500 / PHEV
- Limit 10 per entity
- Requires pre-approval – application form here. Pre-approval is valid for 60 days.
- First 2 vehicles must be purchased concurrently
- Governmental entities are NOT eligible
- The first 50 vehicles will receive an additional $2,500 on top of the standard rebate:
Administrative Changes
- Window stickers must now be submitted with all rebate applications
- Helps to clarify purchase price
- Helps to determine level of electrification if not clear from VIN check
- A driver’s license is not required for governmental entities
