IRS EV Tax Credit Guidance
On January 5, 2024, the IRS announced more time for dealers and sellers of electric vehicles to submit time-of-sale reports. This means you have until January 19th to submit a time-of-sale report for vehicles sold January 1st through January 16th. The IRS encourages you to use this extension only if you are unable to successfully submit a time-of-sale report when the vehicle is for a customer who intends to claim the tax credit on their tax return.
You should continue to submit time-of-sale reports using IRS Energy Credits Online (IRS ECO) for customers who wish to take advantage of the tax credit at the time of sale.
The IRS will be hosting office hours to help dealers and sellers with time-of-sale reporting. Representatives from the IRS will be available to answer questions. To register for a specific session click on the “Register” link on the IRS website.
For more support, the IRS published a PDF user guide with annotated screenshots. We hope this helps.
