How Building Owners Can Get Started!

Efficiency Maine’s Multifamily Efficiency Program is currently accepting applications. Interested multifamily building owners may work with their Program Partner to submit a Program Application and be on their way to saving energy!

Multifamily buildings with 5 – 20 apartment units are eligible for this exciting Program, which includes the following financial incentives:

Incentive #1
Paid upon approval of the Energy Reduction Plan
Prescriptive Path
Modeling Path
$100 per apartment unit
$200 per apartment unit
or 100% of the Partner's fee to develop
the Energy Reduction Plan, whichever is less
Incentive #2
Paid upon final inspection and approval of installed scope of work
All Paths Up to $1,400 per apartment
or 50% of installed costs, whichever is less

The Incentive 1 levels vary depending on which Path a project takes within the Program.

The Prescriptive Path targets projects which implement more traditional measures, such as air sealing and insulation, boiler upgrades, lighting, and other similar retrofits. Efficiency Maine has developed its own tool for calculating energy savings for a specific set of these traditional measures. This is a faster approach to calculating energy savings and offers an alternative method of participating in the Program without developing an energy model.

The Modeling Path may be a better fit for more complex projects that involve unique measures. This path requires the development of a simulated energy model which captures an accurate representation of the existing building and its energy use. This is a more comprehensive approach compared to the Prescriptive Path.

Your Program Partner can provide more feedback on which Path may be better for your specific building.
