$4,000 Supplemental Heat Pump Rebate for Low-Income Households
When properly installed and operated, modern, high-efficiency heat pumps can provide heat very cost-effectively, even through the coldest winter months. Eligibility
Rebate
- 80% of project cost up to $4,000
Participant/Home
- Building is:
- owner-occupied principal residence
- Single-family house, two-unit duplex, or condominium, that is located in Maine.
- Click here for all other building types, including:
- Mixed-use (residential/business) buildings with commercial meter(s)
- Residential buildings with 3 or more units (excluding condominiums)

- Must be first heat pump at residence
- Efficiency Maine has verified that a homeowner or homeowner’s household member participates in one of the following eligibility options. Click here to find out if you’re eligible.
- MaineCare for medical insurance coverage
- Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). Efficiency Maine encourages HEAP households to check with Maine Housing regarding the possibility of qualifying for an installation that covers all costs.
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
Heat Pump
- Heat pump outdoor unit is on this list of rebate-eligible heat pumps.
- Installed heat pump meets design temperature requirement for project location
- Rebated heat pump used throughout entire heating season
- Single zone heat pump (one indoor to one outdoor unit)

Timeframe
- Rebate claim form emailed or postmarked within six months of project completion
How to Get a Rebate:
- Verify eligibility
- Hire a Residential Registered Vendor
- Reserve low-income rebate
- Complete upgrade
- Residential Registered Vendor submits rebate claim form and receives payment
Terms and Conditions
Only one rebate will be paid for any given upgrade. Efficiency Maine does not warrant the performance of rebated upgrades. Program and incentives subject to change or termination. Please allow six weeks for rebate processing. Incomplete information may delay or disqualify your rebate. Efficiency Maine reserves the right to verify installation and perform an inspection.
