Electric Vehicle Incentives for Maine Governmental Entities, Tribal Governments, and Select Nonprofits

Incentives up to $8,000

NEW Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) | $7,500 |
NEW Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) | $2,000 |
NEW Battery Electric Work Van (Cargo, Chassis Cab, or Cutaway) | $8,000 |
- Limit of five incentives per Employer Identification Number (EIN) in a 12-month period, of which not more than two incentives may be for leased EVs.
- Different departments, agencies or subdivisions sharing the same EIN will be counted against this limit on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition to Efficiency Maine’s incentive, your organization may be eligible for a federal tax credit.
Efficiency Maine Incentive Eligibility
Efficiency Maine offers two ways to take advantage of our electric vehicle incentives on qualifying electric vehicles:
- Instant discount at a Participating EV Dealership
- Rebate after purchasing or leasing an EV directly from a manufacturer
Electric Vehicle
- Electric vehicle must have a price of no more than the amounts listed below, where the price is defined as total MSRP or “sticker price,” including options and accessories, minus destination/delivery charges, and no other discounts, deductions, credits or rebates are to be counted in the eligibility determination calculation:
- $80,000 in the case of an eligible pickup truck or commercial van.
- $55,000, for other eligible new vehicles.
- Leased vehicle must be leased for at least 36 months.
Participant
- Maine Governmental Entity; Tribal Government located in the State of Maine; or Nonprofit Service Provider in “Good Standing” that is listed in the Maine 211 Resource Directory, with an IRS 501(c)(3) designation, and having a physical location in the State of Maine
Timeframe
- If purchased from a Participating EV Dealership, incentive must be provided as an instant discount at the time of purchase or lease.
- If purchased directly from a manufacturer, rebate claim form must be submitted online within 60 days of EV purchase or lease date.
How to Get an Efficiency Maine Instant Discount
- Apply for pre-approval.
- Receive pre-approval letter from Efficiency Maine.
- Choose an eligible vehicle
- Find a Participating EV Dealership
- Receive an instant discount at time of purchase or lease.
How to Get an Efficiency Maine Direct-from-Manufacturer Rebate
- Apply for pre-approval.
- Receive pre-approval letter from Efficiency Maine.
- Choose an eligible vehicle
- Purchase or lease an eligible vehicle directly from a manufacturer.
- Submit online rebate claim form within 60 days of EV purchase or lease date.
